My First Post

Writing has always been a way for me to get things off my chest. Growing up English would be the one class I looked forward to because it would allow me to share my thoughts about things that I had kept inside. This is exactly why I have decided to do this blog. Not only is it a great way for me to clear the air about certain things, its a great way to let you into the life of a young NBA player. So check back once a week and I will give you something new every week starting tonight.

Hey Jerryd,

I'm glad you are starting to blog and I look forward to whatever you choose to share. I have been one of your most outspoken supporters on the fan site Blazer's Edge.

Congrats on your outstanding improvement so far this season. You are earning minutes and helping the team. Try to stay patient, keep your head up, and make good decisions on the floor. You are a tremendously talented player with a great future.

Per minute, you're the best playing point guard on the team. It's really just a matter of time before you send Blake to third string.

I'm a huge fan of your game--I love your fearlessness in attacking the rim.

A few questions I'd love to see you address in your blog, if you get the chance:

1. What happened to your three point shot? You were a really good shooter in college. Is it a rhythm thing? I feel the only thing keeping Blake ahead of you is his ability to hit threes (although he's down this year.) What do you think?

2. Brandon Jennings is exploding right now after spending a year in Europe. Did you ever consider Europe instead of the NCAA? In hindsight, would you now? Would your game be different?

3. Do you work a lot on post entry passes in practice? I say this because it's pretty clear that while everybody talks about how Blake fits with Roy, the opportunity to win championships will rest more in feeding Aldridge and Oden. Aldridge is only taking 12 shots a game right now--that just can't continue to happen. You could really open an opportunity for yourself if you can get the bigs scoring more, because Blake and even Miller have been a little disappointing in that.

Keep up the great work. Your coach has had to live with some really mediocre young PG's in the past (Telfair, Sergio, Jack, Ridnour). It's only a matter of time before he builds the trust in you to realize you're several tiers above those guys.

JB. Love to see you on here. Word of warning: Be careful what you put out here. Once it's out, it can't come back.

No, there's nothing about your slick balling professionalism that makes me worried--I'm just trainin' to be a lawyer, and I spend 12 hours a day reading horror stories that often involve professional sports players and the internet.

Be careful, keep it light, and have fun. Much love JB. Keep up the good/hard work. Your energy wins you new fans everytime you hit the floor.

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to communicate with your fans.

Request: Talk about behind the scenes stuff, insight into players' lives (i.e. latenight travel, flying on Paul Allen's plane, life on the road, quirks of different road locker rooms, annoying play-by-play people from other teams, etc).

I look forward to reading your blog, Jerryd. Hope to see more of you crashing the boards and throwing DOWN dunks!

Jerryd,
Good to see you're rediscovering writing. I think it's healthy to dig deep and get the most out of life. It's one thing to be a fantastic athlete, but quite another to be a well rounded human being.

I sometimes worry that young talents are encouraged to be one dimensional because their talent is what earns their bosses and agents money. Then, years down the line, what is there to tell your grandchildren? I did one thing very well...

So keep up the writing, Jerryd. Staying creative off the court can only help with creativity on the court. I hope to read about your perspectives on not only the game, but the city of Portland and what keeps you inspired.

Stay cool.

Hey Jerryd, just want to say that even though you haven't gotten a lot of playing time, to hang in there. Your time will come, and soon. You've got a lot of fans that can't wait to see what you have to offer.

Go Blazers!

I look forward to reading you're blog! Even though I couldn't remember any thing about you when I met you at the airport (where you went to university, your position, you're nick name? night crawler or something like that?? Obviously who ever you were with was messing with me!) you really are one of my favorite players of the game!

I'll be back, and keep up the good work this season. We need ya.

Love the idea, Jerryd. As a vehement fan of yours, I find myself caught between excitement and frustration in regards to your career here in Portland. For someone so talented, I can only imagine the frustration you must feel when you're stuck watching from the sidelines (which seems to be the case all too often). I've been in countless arguments about what exactly your role should be on this team. In reflection, perhaps this battle you've inconveniently been stuck with will be beneficial in hindsight. Most other teams in the league would grant you a starting spot after witnessing all that you can bring to the court. However, I commend you for your efforts to stay positive and maintain a "team-first" philosophy. I think it is these attributes that will take you from an above average NBA player to an All-star. While I realize you can only be so honest with a public blog, I look forward to hearing your own personal perspective on some of the situations you are currently or will be in. Good Luck.

Wats up JB I've been a big fan since playing against you in back in high school. I was a pt guard for South Mountain under Coach David Grace. Keep ya head up baby boi:) kuz i can let u know that nobody is reppin AZ harder den u right now in dis hoop game. You guys have alot of guards with alot of different qualities, you're a natural rim attacker, blake is more of a john stockton and roy is more of a transitional guard. Just keepin hoopin kinfolk, ya peeps back home holdin u down. Til we speak again, let Portland know how hot we get doen here in AZ:)

Let's hope that Blake isn't resigned after this season, Jerryd. That way Nate has no choice but to play you. You deserve it. If for anything else it would be who else is quick enough to keep up with Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Aaron Brooks, etc?

Besides, you're much more talented than what is being showned. I'm glad you have a good attitude because that will be remembered. I still am baffled that Sergio played over you last season and is now being phased out by the Kings this season.

Your time will come and everybody will realize what a mistake it was not to play you so much.
